The Intersection – Where Fremont Meets the World

Books to Prisoners.  As you left church last week, you may have noticed those brown paper packages by the door and wondered what they were.  They are books from the Books to Prisoners program.  Books to Prisoners is a non-profit organization that collects donated books and ships them to prisoners throughout the US.  Most of the books go directly to prisoners who write and request them but some are also sent to prison libraries.  Lori Alton has been involved with the organization and saw both a need and a way Fremonters could help.  Books to Prisoners has plenty of books and volunteers to fill orders and package them but they need help with mailing.  That’s where Fremonters come in.  If you feel moved to do so, pick up a book on your way out of church, go to the post office and mail it (you pay the postage, the average cost is $3.00-$5.00).  Perhaps your efforts will help a prisoner learn to read or study a vocation.  If you have questions contact Lori at lorijalton@yahoo.com  or contact anyone on the Outreach Committee.

Habitat for Humanity.  Fremont has been invited to participate in the          construction of three “faith homes” being built in southeast Portland.  Fundraising has begun and construction is scheduled to begin in late spring.  Several area churches are donating money, time, food for the workers and/or quilts for the families.  Do we want to help with this very worthy cause?  Are you interested in helping to organize our participation?  If the answer is YES!, please contact Cherie Allbaugh at 503-249-5764 or email cherda@aol.com.  We need a few dedicated volunteers to help coordinate our efforts…
