About Us

A church moving from inside the building to inside the neighborhood.

Our Mission

We believe that Jesus embodied the lavish and unconditional love of God, and that He demonstrated the power of that love to transform brokenness into wholeness. We seek to follow the words of Jesus when He said “Love your neighbor as yourself,” and so we faithfully support one another in our lives as Christians, and we actively engage in service to the larger community and the world. Fremont UMC is a place for all to explore what they believe, to nurture their relationship with God, and to venture forward in service to others.

Our Vision

We live into God’s wholeness for ourselves and our world by practicing our values of belonging, vulnerability, and mutual flourishing.

Our Core Values

Vulnerability: name brokenness, pursue healing, work for equity

Mutual Flourishing: be curious, build trust, take risks

Belonging: include, embrace, connect

Our Current Imperatives

Deepen our life together: We deepen our authentic community with each other so that our own work to heal and connect can ground us to live in full partnership with our neighbors.

Exist as a Community Hub: We offer our building and partnership efforts as a resource to build community for our neighbors and neighborhood. We pay attention and participate with where God is already at work.

Fremont UMC History

In 1922 a group of like-minded individuals founded a Methodist congregation and in 1923 they laid the cornerstone for a church that would serve the spiritual needs of the emerging Irvington and Alameda neighborhoods. They envisioned a beautiful Tudor-style edifice that would welcome the people building houses and moving into the surrounding area. They dreamed of establishing a Methodist presence in the community to offer spiritual solace to neighbors and to give testimony to their faith in God.

Today, Fremont embodies the spirit in which the church was founded. Families and individuals are strengthened in faith, comforted in times of trouble, and blessed with everlasting friendships. Children and youth receive support through kindness, encouragement, and love while they grow in friendship and faith in themselves, others, and God. Fremont has partnered with and supports the interests of community organizations and organizations that are serving the greater good. The Fremont community seeks to preserve and ensure the values the church has grown to have for those who come after.
